Restaurants in the downtown area are improving. In addition to the ones I list below, try an outdoor table at the restaurant of the Hotel Posada Santa Fé, which affords a way to enjoy the Jardín de la Unión. The Jardín has a closed, intimate feel; if you want something more open with longer vistas, try the Plaza de la Paz, a block away. Here you can sit, have a drink, and perhaps nibble on an appetizer at one of the outdoor cafes in front of Guanajuato's cathedral. If you're in search of coffee, the best in town is at Café Tal (tel. 473/732-6212). It's on Sangre de Cristo, which is the section of the main street running between Jardín Unión and Plaza Embajadoras.
